GeForce 7800 Announcements

GeForce 7800 Announcements

GPUs Jun 23,2005 0

Following the official announcement of the NVIDIA 7800GTX, most of NVIDIA's partners are currently offering VGA cards based on NVIDIA's reference design. Among them, Asus differs slightly with the "overclocked" version of its 7800, coming with a 470MHz GPU clock. In general, the native GeForce 7800GTX GPU core clock is rated at a speedy 430 MHz. It has been engineered using 0.11 micron process technology and includes 24 pipelines for highly efficient, highly optimized graphics processing. This GPU also supports SLI dual VGA card technology. The supported GDDR3 is running at 600 MHz (1200 MHz), and the I/O of the device includes a dual DVI port.

Asus

Taiwanese ASUSTeK will announce the Extreme N7800GTX/2DHTV/256M VGA card, based on the NVIDIA GPU GeForce 7800 GTX.

Asus has decided to push the GPU clock frequency to 470MHz, which is 40MHz higher than the original 430MHz of the NVIDIA chipset. The memory clock remains the same (1200MHz) as well as the memory size (256MB).

Availability on the market is expected by end of June, at a price tag of US$650.

Asus also decided to stop the commercial launch of its dual-chip graphics cards featuring two GeForce 6800 series. The ASUS EN6800GT Dual was supposed to be 1.7 times faster compared to a single-chip NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT graphics card. With 32 pixel and 12 vertex processors, the card might end up more powerful compared to the forthcoming single-chip products based on the ATI's R520 and NVIDIA's G70 GPUs.

The main disadvantage of the GeForce 6800-series could be its large size, compared to typical graphics cards, making it hard to fit into a typical PC case.
