DTS-HD Master Audio Showcased at IFA 2006

DTS-HD Master Audio Showcased at IFA 2006

Consumer Electronics Sep 10,2006 0

DTS showcased its DTS-HD Master Audio in 5.1- and 7.1-channel surround audio with 1080p HD video, at IFA 2006 in Berlin DTS demonstrated the full functionality of a next generation disc format with HD video and DTS-HD Master Audio at the Blu-Ray booth using a Blu-ray Disc player connected to a standard A/V receiver with HDMI 1.2, a set-up similar to that which consumers can have in their living rooms using available technology.

The DTS-HD Master Audio demo disc contains three music videos from artists Peter Gabriel, Pat Metheney and the Omar Hakim Band and has been produced by DTS on both Blu-ray and HD DVD disc format.

Brian Towne, Senior Vice President, Consumer/Pro Division at DTS, commented: "This is the high definition experience as intended. We are playing from a Blu-ray Disc, using nothing other than consumer products and it sounds great. Our DTS-HD demo disc has made an enormous impact here at IFA and we are very grateful to our friends at Real World, SurroundExpert.com and Eagle Vision for allowing us to use these music videos on our demo disc."

The next demonstrations of this DTS-HD demo disc are planned at IBC2006 (September 8-12) in Amsterdam on booth 1.556, CEDIA Expo 2006 (September 13-17) in Denver, Colorado on booth 249 and at the HiFi News Show 2006 (September 22-24) at Heathrow in London in the Windsor Suite.

The equipment used at the DTS-HD Master Audio demo at IFA was the soon-to-be-released Pioneer Blu-ray Disc BDP-HD1 player and a currently available VSX-AX4ASi A/V receiver. The player decoded the DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream and passed the eight resulting audio channels to the AV receiver via HDMI 1.2, ensuring that the signal remained in the digital domain for the highest audio quality. Video was output to a Pioneer plasma screen model number PDP-5000EX capable of displaying 1080p high definition video.
