Cirrus Logic becomes newest licensee of verance copy protection technology for DVD-Audio

Cirrus Logic becomes newest licensee of verance copy protection technology for DVD-Audio

General Interest Nov 22,2002 0

Verance, the leading provider of tools and services to track, manage and enhance the use of media content globally, today announced that Cirrus Logic has licensed Verance's audio watermark technology for inclusion in a new line of high-performance chipsets for DVD devices. Under the license, Cirrus Logic joins a growing number of semiconductor designers to adopt Verance's highly optimized commercial watermark technology implementations that facilitate quick and easy integration of the Verance technology into chipsets destined for high-volume consumer products.

The optimized watermark implementation provided by Verance is designed to provide exceptional performance in fixed-point processor architectures such as those used in Cirrus Logic's designs. Verance's optimized fixed-point implementation is the latest entry into its optimized implementation product line, which also includes implementations for the TI C54x DSP, ARM7, ARM9E, and Pentium processor architectures.

Cirrus Logic, a premier supplier of high-performance chip solutions for consumer entertainment, recently unveiled a programmable DVD platform that enables DVD manufacturers to reduce the time it takes to get their products into the marketplace. This feature-rich, multi-functional chip solution, the CS98200, is designed to help bring advanced consumer features such as DVD-Audio at more affordable consumer price points. Verance's watermark technology will be included in this new line of processors that should be available to consumers by various manufacturers in mid 2003.

"We are pleased to be a part of the tremendous growth of DVD-Audio by providing content management solutions to the current marketplace, as well as for the emerging feature-rich digital DVD-Audio formats," said Verance president and CEO, Bob Cerasoli.

"Cirrus Logic is driving innovation in digital entertainment, and collaborating with Verance gives us a market edge because we will be able to deliver cost-effective chip solutions that will help deliver DVD-Audio at more affordable consumer prices that will in turn drive greater volume," said Terry Ritchie, vice president of Video Marketing, Cirrus Logic. "In the near future, DVD-Audio will become a mainstream feature, due in large part to Cirrus' chip solutions and Verance's leadership in audio copy protection technology."
