Disconfirmed: Soyo Taiwan exits the motherboard business

Disconfirmed: Soyo Taiwan exits the motherboard business

PC components Dec 6,2004 0

There's been a recent ball of confusion thrown into the air surrounding Soyo's intention to leave the motherboard business. The confusion started when Soyo Taiwan announced that it was indeed leaving the business to focus on components and plastics. However, the U.S.-based Soyo Group (which has been a separate company for approximately two years) will still be very much involved in the motherboard sector. In fact, it is the Soyo Group that is responsible for the products we Geeks typically see in Fry's and Tiger Direct.

Not only will Soyo Group continue to blaze ahead in the motherboard business, but it is also planning to release a line of VoIP router and gateway products, marketed under its Z-Connect brand. Particularly interesting is Soyo's plan to introduce dual-mode VoIP products that integrate existing PBX systems and standard phones to give legacy systems VoIP capabilities.

For more information, see the CRN article.
