Facebook is working on AR glasses With Luxottica: report

Facebook is working on AR glasses With Luxottica: report

Gadgets Sep 17,2019 0

Facebook has been working to develop augmented reality glasses out of its Facebook Reality Labs in Redmond, Washington, and now will reportedly partner with Ray-Ban parent company Luxottica in order to deliver the product sometime between 2023 and 2025.

CNBC sources claim that Facebook's AR glasses nicknamed Orion would be a full-fledged phone replacement, meaning it would allow you to take calls, see information and livestream what you're seeing.

Facebook is also developing an artificial intelligence voice assistant that would serve as a user input for the glasses, CNBC previously reported. In addition, the company has experimented with a ring device that would allow users to input information via motion sensor.

Apple declined to comment.

Given the long lead time, there’s no guarantee that the glasses will be completed on time or ever ship.

On top of technical challenges like size and battery life, Facebook will also have to contend with its public image, as it is already in trouble for its approaches to privacy and data sharing.
