Facebook Makes It Easier To Use Recommendations, Find Local Events, Order Food

Enterprise & IT Oct 19,2016 0

Facebook is launching new tools to curate tips and suggestions from friends and make it easier for users to engage with the businesses behind them. When users write a Facebook post looking for advice on local places or services, they'll have the option to turn on Recommendations for that post. If they turn on the feature, their friends can comment on their posts with suggestions, and they’ll see all of them mapped out and saved in one place. Users can also go to their Recommendations bookmark on Facebook to ask a new question.

Facebook is also revamping its "Events" tab and standalone "Events" app to make it easier to find what’s popular among friends locally and events the user has engaged with in the past. The new features begin rolling out within the U.S. on iOS and Android on Wednesday.

The recommendation and event updates are one piece of what Facebook described as a larger plan to make it easier to get things done, choose services and engage with businesses on Facebook.

Users will also be able to get quotes from businesses, buy movie tickets and book appointments at spas and salons, Facebook said.

Facebook launched tools that allow users to order or reserve a range of servies through businesses’ Pages, such as order food from any restaurant that uses Delivery.com or Slice; request appointments from businesses that use HomeAdvsior, MyTime and some other services; order movie tickets through a Fandango integration; or buy tickets for events through a partnership with Ticketmaster and Eventbrite. Without any integrations, businesses can also add a "Get Quote" button or appointment booking button, which will automatically generate a Messenger thread between the business and user. The buttons are available to all businesses in the U.S., and more third-party services will be added in the coming months, Facebook said.

Earlier this month, Facebook launched "Marketplace", a platform that allows people to buy and sell items locally.
