Daxon Renews Licensing For CD-R

Daxon Renews Licensing For CD-R

Optical Storage Apr 22,2008 0

Daxon Technology, the company behind the BenQ-branded blank CD and DVD media, renewed the licensing agreement with Philips over CD-R media. Daxon Technology was the first company to renew its license, Digitimes.com reported today, citing industry sources in Taiwan.

Royal Philips Electronics has been negotiating with Taiwan-based makers of CD-R media in order to renew their CD-R disc royalty contracts, which had expired in the second half of last year.

The company is also negotiating a license renewal with CMC Magnetics and Ritek, the top two Taiwan-based makers of optical discs, as well as Prodisc Technology.

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) in February 2007 decided to grant Philips a general exclusion order to prohibit importing blank CD-R and CD-RW discs without Philips licensing, possibly forcing Taiwan-based makers to renew licensing with Philips.
