Philips Adds VoIP to the Nexperia Cordless Phone Chipset

Philips Adds VoIP to the Nexperia Cordless Phone Chipset

Smartphones Dec 20,2005 0

Philips launched its first Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) enabled baseband chips for cordless phones. These baseband chips belong to the Philips PCD8072x family of cordless phone baseband chips.

The PCD8072x baseband chips form the heart of the Nexperia 820 cordless phone system solution, which can handle WiFi, Bluetooth, DECT-including U.S. DECT-or WDCT as their transmission standards.

The chips contain ARM7 and DSP technology to deliver high performance. The VoIP protocol stack is part of the firmware and is transparent to phone manufacturers, making it easy to construct a complete VoIP system. Depending on the wireless standard used, the VoIP task can be accomplished in the handset or in the base station. The PCD8072x also promises low power consumption allowing extended talk and standby time.

The PCD8072x family is currently shipping in volume to top cordless phone manufacturers worldwide. It is available as part of the Nexperia System Solution 820 or as a standalone product. As part of its Semiconductor Showcase, Philips will demonstrate the new VoIP baseband chips at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 2006.
