You can order the Zidoo X5 over Amazon.com for just $69.00. This is almost half of what you have to pay for the Minix Neo U1 S905 box we have tested recently. Looking at the specs of both players, they are both based on the S905 chipset; the Minix Neo U1 lacks the low power RAM/ROM but still, we have to see the Zidoo X5 live and kicking in real tests in order to come up with a safer comparison.

The Zidoo X5 retails in the package you see below and is backed by an 1-year warranty

The Z5 is bundled with the following components:

  • 1x Remote control
  • 1x HDMI cable
  • 1x Power adapter
  • 1x User manual

As happens with many other TV boxes, do not expect to find AAA batteries in the package.

The player itself looks cool in the outside, with a modern rectangular shape and smooth lines, although the plastic silver shell will remind you that this is a budget TV box.

Besides the "Zidoo" logo on the top side, in the picture below you can identify the IR receiver / operation LED on the player' s front side:

Two USB2.0 ports and the microSDHC slot are positioned on the lest side of the device:

The rear side is covered by the an HDMI 2.0 port, which supports 4K @ 60Hz and HDMI-CEC, an SPDIF sound output, a 10/100M port LAN and a power jack.

The design of the provided remote control is different than other Zidoo products we had reviewed in the past, although it's comfortable to hold in hand. Besides the typical buttons (navigation, volume, etc) there are three programmable buttons, which can be set as shortcuts in order to launch your favorite apps.

We would like to see a better response from the player each time we used the remote. The player's reception was poor, making operation a bit tricky unless we were close enough the player. But instead of using the included remote, you can use your Android smartphone ( Zidoo RC app) or even an air mouse or a BT keyboard/mouse to control the remotely device.
