Xiaomi Introduces Mi Pad, Android-powered 4K Mi TV 2

Chinese Xiaomi's first slate was announced today, featuring a 7.9-inch display with resolution equal to Apple's Retina Display of 2,048x1,536-pixels and powered by Nvidia's Tegra K1 processor. The 7.9-inch features a candy-colored glossy plastic case, it is powered by Nvidia's quad-core Tegra K1 processor (CPU 2.2GHz 4+1 A15, GPU 192 Kepler), has 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 64GB of onboard storage. The Wi-Fi model (802.11ac with 2X2 antenna) supports up to 128GB of extra storage via microSD, features a 5MP front camera and 8MP rear camera and its 6700 mAh battery gives you 1300h of standby time, or 86h of music playback, or 11 hours of video streaming.

The tablet runs a new version of MIUI, a customised version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Priced at $240 (1,499 Chinese yuan) for the 16GB version and $272 (1,699 Chinese yuan), the Xiaomi Mi Pad will be available in China in June. For comparison, the iPad Mini and Samsung Galaxy Tab models are available in China at 1,499 yuan ($240) for the smaller version.

The Chinese company also today announced the Mi TV 2, an Android-based TV featuring a 49-inch TV 4K 3890x2160 panel, 802.11ac 2x2 Wifi support, 8-speaker soundbar + subwoofer, a dedicated 11-key remote plus a gesture remote app. It will retail in China for just $645 (!).
