Verbatim delivers latest 52x CD-R recordable media!

General Interest Jan 16,2003 0

Drawing on nearly a decade of experience in leading the advancement of CD-R technology, Verbatim® Corporation, announced today DataLifePlus® 52x- certified CD-R discs -- the fastest recording speed for the CD-R format. In addition to supporting the 7.8 MB/sec write speeds of new 52x drives, Verbatim CD-R media can also be used with existing CD drives at speeds ranging from 1x to 48x. At 52x, the discs can record 80 minutes of music, 700MB of data, or 30 minutes of video in 2 minutes or less. Certification by the leading 52x drive manufacturers provides end users with the assurance that Verbatim 52x media offers optimum recording at the full rated speed and that Verbatim's Super Azo(TM) recording dye technology not only withstands the high-speed lasers and drive speeds of the new drives, it maximizes their performance. Media stability is further enhanced during manufacturing by using ultra-precise molding techniques developed by Verbatim to keep the discs flat.

"With each increase in performance, CD drives have become less tolerant to media imperfections," explained Ron Hanafin, Verbatim CD Product Marketing Manager. "We welcome the growing importance of quality media, an attribute Verbatim has always regarded as a priority in the development of trustworthy products. With the advancements we've made to our recording layer technology and manufacturing techniques, we continuously deliver high-quality media for error-free recording on today's higher-speed drives without sacrificing reliability or durability."

For improved reflectivity and maximum read/write performance, the new media's CD-R silver reflective layer is safeguarded with a dual-protective layer that provides a longer archival life and protection from scratches that can damage the recording layer. Verbatim's DataLifePlus CD-R media is the only CD-R disc that includes double protection for the reflective layer as standard. Verbatim works closely with the industry's leading drive manufacturers for certification with high-performance drives to assure end users that data will be reliably stored at the drives' full-rated speed.

Like all Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-R media, the 52x CD-R discs deliver an estimated archival life of more than 100 years.

Availability

Verbatim DataLifePlus 52x 80-min./700MB CD-R media will be available in January from authorized resellers in single and multiple-disc packages with ultra-slim cases, and spindles
