Verbatim announces new CD-RW drive available 40x/12x/48x

Verbatim announces new CD-RW drive available 40x/12x/48x

General Interest Jun 25,2002 0

Verbatim, Europe's leading specialist data storage company, has now developed a CD-Rewritable drive designed specifically to help modern computer users to store and load as fast as they create. Verbatim’s new 40x speed drive, which also rewrites at 12x and reads at 48x, allows users to record 700 MB of data in just over three minutes, the fastest currently available, demonstrating that Verbatim engineers are at the forefront of developing the technology to deal with increasing file size files of modern times. With a write data transfer speed of 40x, or 6.0 MB/s, waiting time is kept to an absolute minimum. There is also an extremely fast rewrite data transfer speed of 12x (1.8 MB/s) and a read data transfer speed of 48x (7.2 MB/s) The high-performance of the drive is clear. Access time is an average of 72 ms.

The drive benefits from an 8 MB cache and Writeproof technology, which eliminates those dreaded buffer under-runs, thus putting a stop to the ancient art of “coaster” making - speed is nothing without safety and security.

The drive is supplied with the latest CD burning software from Ahead. Nero 5.5, features CD authoring, packet writing and audio playback and conversion utilities alongside many other key features. Record modes include: Disk-at-once, track-at-once, session-at-once, multi-session, incremental and packet writing.

The drive measures 146 x 42 x 192 mm, weighing 1,200 gm, and is supplied with a Verbatim DataLifePlus 700 MB CD-R and a Verbatim DataLifePlus high-speed CD-RW, which allows users to start using the drive immediately. All the required cabling and fixing screws are provided in the package. A headphone socket (stereo mini-jack) and thumb wheel volume control are featured on the front panel.

The 40x drive is compatible with Windows 95/98, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP with a Pentium II 300 MHz or faster with a minimum of 64 MB RAM and 1 GB of available hard drive capacity. It is compatible with CD-DA, CD-I, Video-CD, CD-ROM-XA, Enhanced CD, CD-Plus, Photo-CD and CD-RW.

FULL SPECIFICATION:
Write data transfer: 6.0 MB/s (40x)
Rewrite data transfer: 1.8 MB/s (12x)
Read data transfer: 7.2 MB/s (48x)
Data buffer capacity: 8 MB with Writeproof technology.
Safety standards: FCC, UL, CSA, TUV, CE
