Nvidia Launches New High-end GPU For Notebooks

GPUs Apr 19,2006 0

Nvidia on April 18 unveiled its GeForce Go 7900 series of graphics processing units (GPUs) for notebook PCs. The two new GPUs are the GeForce Go 7900 GTX GPU and the GeForce Go 7900 GS. According to industry information, the GeForce Go 7900 GTX is clocked at 500MHz and its memory runs at 1.2GHz.

The GPUs are targeted for gaming and features DirectX 9.0, Shader Model 3.0 and H.264 hardware accelerated support, while power consumption is maintained at the same level of Nvidia?s previous generation of mobile GPUs.

"At XHD screen resolutions of 1680x1050 and 1920x1200, games have up to 65% more image detail than games viewed on common 1024x768 notebook screens," said Jeff Fisher, Senior Vice President of the GPU Business at NVIDIA.

The GeForce Go 7900 will be manufactured on a 90nm process.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 Series GPUs are now available for order from Nvidia's partners such as Dell and Toshiba. Other partners that plan to ship soon include ABS, CyberPower, Falcon Northwest, Gateway, Hypersonic, iBuyPower, Velocity Micro, Vicious PC, and Voodoo PC in North America, as well as AJP, Evesham, Gericom, Multirama, Plaisio, and XS2 in Europe.
