Microsoft has identified an issue within Internet Explorer 9 that may prevent third party hypervisors from being able to take advantage of IE9's hardware acceleration feature. Hypervisor, also called virtual machine monitor (VMM), is one of many virtualization techniques which allow multiple operating systems to run concurrently on a host computer.

Internet Explorer 9 interacts with non-Microsoft hypervisors differently than earlier versions of Internet Explorer. The company said that IE9's hardware acceleration feature will default to software rendering when running in some virtual machines those powered by VMWare's software.

However, the company is working on a prioritized update to Internet Explorer 9 and plans to make it available in the coming weeks to ensure that users using third party hypervisors, such as those offered by VMware and other vendors will have the enjoy IE9's promised experience.
