Japanese I-O Data today announced plans to release later this month the BRP-US6, a new portable 6x Blu-ray disc burner. The external slim-type drive supports read/write on Blu-ray discs and can be connected to a notebook through a USB2.0 interface.

The drive is based on a Sony-Optiarc reference design. It will retail in Japan in the middle of this month for JPY 29,600 ($340,50)
