Google Begins Secure Internet WiFi Service

Google Begins Secure Internet WiFi Service

Enterprise & IT Sep 21,2005 0

Google is now all set to introduce Google WiFi. The move has been confirmed by the official website of the company which underlines that a product called "Google Secure Access," has been designed to "establish a more secure connection while using Google WiFi." Speculations have been rife about Google getting on to the bandwagon of WiFi since April of this year, and now the company's spokesman Nate Tyler has confirmed that a trial test is underway near the company's Mountain View, California, headquarters. Tyler said, "Google WiFi is a community outreach program to offer free wireless access in areas near our headquarters. At this stage in development, we're focused on collecting feedback from users. We'll determine next steps as the product evolves." The project was set in motion as Google engineer's "20 percent time project" wherein its technical hands are allowed to invest 20 percent of their time to develop independent and innovative projects.

This is being viewed as another major diversification move by Google who has already established a global core competence in internet search technology. Naturally, it has once again brought to the fore the intense debate as how Google will fare in the new areas while vying with already established giants of internet access services and telecom companies. Opinions are divided but some renowned experts are claiming that it?s strong financial position will help the company to pull off the new operations. With Google operating the largest online advertising, Google Maps, and soon to be GoogleNET, they could easily target users who use their internet services with location based advertising.
