Dell's XPS 13 2-in-1 Starts At $1,000

Dell's XPS 13 2-in-1 Starts At $1,000

PC components Jan 2,2017 0

Dell's latest XPS 13 2-in-1 ultraportable converts into tablet orientations and will be available for $1,000 starting on January 5th.

The convertible is a combination of the existing XPS 13 design with a foldable hinge, which allows you either to keep it in a tent orientation, or fold the screen all the way back. It packs in the XPS 13's "InfinityEdge" design, which leaves a mere 5.2mm bezel around the 13.3-inch screen. It comes in 1080p and QuadHD+ (3200 x 1800 pixels) variants, includes 7th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and fits up to 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.

At 2.7 pounds and 13.3mm tall, the fanless convertible features 2 USB 3.0 ports, one of which is Thunderbolt 3.0 compatible. You'll also get a USB-A to USB-C adapter for connecting your older peripherals.

Starting at $1,000, the XPS 13 2-in-1 is a bit more expensive than the standard $800 XPS 13.

27-inch Ultrathin monitor

Dell also announced the new 27-inch Ultrathin monitor. The appeal of the 27 Ultrathin, as it's officially called, obviously comes from its thin side profile, which Dell has managed to achieve by having the components that are traditionally placed behind the screen moved to the base of the monitor.

The 27-inch panel, which has a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440, features HDR-like technology and covers 99 percent of the sRGB color space. It also offers 178 degree viewing angles, and, thanks to the articulated hinge design, it can tilt and swivel.

Dell is not saying much else about the 27 Ultrathin at this stage, but the company does mention that the base houses a USB Type-C and an HDMI port, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output.

The 27 Ultrathin will be available starting March 23 at a price of $699.99.
