Apple Pulled Problematic iOS 8.0.1 Update

Apple Pulled Problematic iOS 8.0.1 Update

Smartphones Sep 24,2014 0

Apple earlier today released an update to its iOS 8 operating system for the iPhone to fix software issues, but created bigger problems in the process so it was pulled. iPhone owners who were quick enough to update their iOS8 software to the latest version experienced dropped cellular service, according to complaints posted on Twitter. The fingerprint reading Touch ID feature also wasn't working after the update, according to customers.

The iOS8 mobile software was released last week and immediately users reported that after installation, popular applications made by Facebook, Dropbox and others also had been crashing more frequently.

According to data from Crittercism Inc., an analytics firm, iOS 8 causes apps to crash about 3.3 percent of the time, or 67 percent more than last year’s version.

Apple originally released the iOS8 update today to fix software bugs and add the health and fitness-monitoring application HealthKit. The program had been cut from last week’s initial release.

Here is what Apple said about the iOS 8.01 update, prior of putting it offline :

  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
Users may roll back their devices to iOS 8 until Apple comes up with a new fix.
