Apogee And Zoran Partner On Audio Technology For Integration Into DVD And Other ICs

Apogee And Zoran Partner On Audio Technology For Integration Into DVD And Other ICs

Consumer Electronics Feb 14,2005 0

Apogee Technology, Inc., a leading provider of digital audio amplification solutions, announced that it has licensed its DDX Controller output technology to Zoran Corporation for integration into their DVD and other Consumer Electronics Integrated Circuits (ICs). The inclusion of Apogees all-digital DDX audio core in Zoran's ICs will further enable the proliferation of DDX power ICs as the leading Class D high-efficiency amplification solution for DVD Receivers and other audio applications. Under the agreement Zoran will market ICs integrating DDX output and Apogee will support customer product development and market DDX Power IC solutions to end users.

Apogee's DDX all-digital performance and high-efficiency operation enable manufacturers to build compact, high fidelity audio systems with more power, in less space, at a lower cost. The solution consists of a Controller with patented DDX output modulation, licensed by Zoran, combined with a DDX Power Device - available today from Apogee in a broad range of power options up to 240 Watts. With sales of over 30 million ICs since 2001, DDX, with a 69 percent market share, was the leading high-efficiency, or Class D, solution in the DVD receiver market in 2003, based upon market research by Future Concepts.

"Our customers are demanding greater performance in integrated IC solutions for DVD and other consumer electronic applications that are easier to implement and that enable more competitive price points," said Dr. Jinxiang (Gene) Liu, vice president and general manager, Zoran's DVD division. "We selected Apogee's DDX audio Controller technology because of the maturity of Apogee's technology, the high performance of its patented DDX output modulation, and its ability to offer the most cost-effective solution for consumer devices with amplification including Home Theater in a Box and Mini Component systems."

"We are excited to be able to license our DDX core technology to Zoran, a leading, highly respected solutions provider for DVD and other consumer electronics markets," said John Gitelman, Apogee's Director of Marketing. This is a powerful opportunity for both companies to leverage our leadership positions with our customer base and to continue the proliferation of Apogee's DDX and Zoran's solutions in the marketplace."
