TDK raises media prices

TDK raises media prices

General Interest Jun 18,2001 0

"...TDK Electronics announced today that it has raised prices for its line of Compact Disc Recordable (CD-R) and ReWritable (CD-RW) media effective June 1st.

Jim Browning, TDK VP of Marketing, explains the need for a CD-R price increase as follows: "The CD-R industry is undergoing a correction caused by the market dynamics of the past two years. Last year's over-supply of discs resulted in dramatic price decreases, which forced many small and medium sized manufacturers to exit the CD-R business. This development has caused a consolidation of the manufacturing base, which has led to a tightening of disc supply. In addition, increases in CD-R production costs have also contributed to the price hike. Although wholesale price increases of approximately 30% are expected, CD-R is still positioned as the most cost-efficient, flexible data, music and multimedia storage option available today..." NULL
