Panasonic To Pay 129 Million Euros Fine Over Cathode Ray Tube Price Fixing Case

Panasonic To Pay 129 Million Euros Fine Over Cathode Ray Tube Price Fixing Case

Consumer Electronics Jul 12,2016 0

The European Court of Justice dismissed Panasonic’s appeal against a judgment of the European General Court concerning cathode ray tubes for televisions, and the Japanese company will pay a 128,866,000 euros fine. In December 2012, the European Commission imposed fines on Panasonic and its subsidiary, MT Picture Display Co., Ltd. (MTPD), for violation of EU competition law concerning cathode ray tubes for televisions. Panasonic and MTPD appealed to the European General Court.

In September 2015, the European General Court rendered the judgment reducing the fines imposed by the Commission. The fines imposed by the General Court were as follows: 128,866,000 euros on Panasonic; 7,530,000 euros jointly and severally on Panasonic and MTPD; and 82,826,000 euros jointly and severally on Panasonic, MTPD and Toshiba Corporation.

On July 8, 2016, Panasonic confirmed it has received the order of the European Court of Justice dismissing its appeal.

Panasonic and MTPD have already exited the cathode ray tubes business.
