Samsung Display is the top seller of Ultra HD panels in the third quarter, data showed Monday, amid popularity of high-end TVs. Samsung Display shipped 3.68 million units of UHD TV panels in the July-September period, compared with 1.26 million units shipped a year earlier and outpacing its local rival LG Display Co., according to the data compiled by industry tracker IHS showed.

LG Display followed suit by shipping 3.6 million units in the third quarter.

The global shipments of UHD TV panels reached 11.5 million units in the third quarter, moving above the 10-million mark for the first time and advancing 79.8 percent on-year.

Taiwan-based Innolux stood as the No. 3 player by selling 1.74 million units, followed by AU Optronics with 1.08 million units.
