Should We Expect Android OS For IoT Next Week?

Should We Expect Android OS For IoT Next Week?

Enterprise & IT May 21,2015 0

Google may join the group of companies that offer their own operating system for internet of things - the world of connected everyday objects. The Information reports that Google has developed software -- internally called "Brillo" -- that can run on low-power devices and give them the ability to communicate with other connected devices nearby. The new OS could debut under an Android name next week, at Google's I/O conference.

The software is reported to be designed for devices that have as little as 32MBs or 64MBs of RAM, meaning that those devices should be simple and low-powered.

A lot of companies are diving into iOT device and their software. Microsoft is releasing Windows 10 10 IoT Core that's meant to run on ATMs, ultrasound machines, and wearables.

Huawei yesterday announced an OS meant to connect IoT gadgets. Samsung recently announced a series of chips called Artik designed for IoT devices as well.
