Windows 8.1 Update Leaks Online

Windows 8.1 Update Leaks Online

Enterprise & IT Feb 3,2014 0

A 64-bit build version of Windows 8.1 with Update 1 has leaked online, giving a look at what to expect from the official Update 1 which is set to be released next month. So the new Start screen now features two handy new buttons -- Search and Power, which obviously open the Search and lets you shutdown or restart.

The side of the screen is featuring a new title bar for the Metro apps, specifically for closing, minimizing, and snapping the apps there. The Windows Store app is pinned there by default. You can also set the OS to display all running apps on the taskbar.

If you want to have the Apps screen as the default rather than the Start screen, a new alphabetical view lets you filter apps by letter.

For all those usng the mouse rather the touchscreen, Microsoft now allows you to sort the Start screen by right-clicking an app. A context menu will pop up that will allow you to unpin that item from Start screen and/or taskbar or uninstall it.

Windows Store apps now come with a title bar, making it easier to minimize or close them, and split left or right.

In addition, Internet Explorer 11 now includes a new 'enterprise' mode, which is designed to help companies get IE 8-dependent apps "unstuck."

There's been much discussion online about whether the new Windows 8.1.1 verion will boot to the desktop by default. It seems that if you install Win 8.1.1 from scratch on a clean partition on a machine without a touchscreen, you boot to the desktop by default. But that's not the case if you install it in virtual machine.
