PC components Jan 16,2014 0

Sharp goes big with the new new RW-16G1 15-6-inch Windows 8.1 Pro tablet and the 70-inch / 60-inch "BIG PAD" touchscreens. The RW-16G1 is a 15.6-inch tablet with a 3,200x1,800 (WQHD) display (235ppi) and a Core i5-4200U processor. It runs on Wndows 8.1 OS and a digitizer pen for handwriting input on its 10-point multi-touch screen. The 2.7-pound, 0.5-inch thick Sharp RW-16G also packs 4GB of RAM, 128GB solid-state drive, a Mini DisplayPort, USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot.

The tablet, targeted at businesses, uses Sharp's IGZO display tech and has a rated battery life of nine hours.

Sharp's new 15.6-inch tablet follows an announcement last month of the Sharp Meibus Pad with a 2,560x1,600 IGZO display and an Intel Bay Trail processor.

Pricing has yet to be disclosed, although it is estimated to cost around 250,000 Yen ($2,380) when it will retail in Japan this March.

Samsung has also announced a 12.2-inch tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show, and Apple is rumored to be working on a 13-inch class tablet.

Sharp's "BIG PAD" displays come in 60-inch and 70-inch vesions. Designed for education and teleconderencing, the products LCD UV2A IGZO displays with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, a brightness of 300cd/m2 and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio.

They support touchcreen operation using a digital stylus, wireless LAN connection with devces such as tablets and smartphones, and are also equipped with an optical disc drive, DisplayPort, HDMI, analog RGB and composite connectors.
