Once again, Amazon.com is rumored be developing smartphones with HTC, putting it in a position to compete with Apple and Google, the Financial Times reported. But the report is noting that an Amazon phone is not likely to launch before next year and one of the paper's sources warned that "the timeline for launch has been changed before and Amazon may yet decide not to release the device."

Amazon and HTC did not provide any comment.

Amazon has been rumored to release its own mobile devices since 2011, when Citigroup had said that Amazon would launch a smartphone in 2012 through a partnership with Foxconn.
