AMD Boosts Its AMD Fusion APUs for Notebooks, Ultrathins, All-in-Ones and Desktops

PC components Aug 22,2011 0

Today, AMD updated its C- and E-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) for ultrathin and value notebooks, netbooks, all-in-ones and desktop PCs with top of the line features. The updated APUs deliverenhanced HD graphics capabilities, performance boosts with enhanced memory, DisplayPort ++ for connecting to any HDMI or DisplayPort-enabled monitor or TV and 12 hours of resting battery life on a single charge for the mobile platform.

Notebooks, netbooks, small form factor and all-in-one desktops based on these new APUs are available from manufacturers starting today.

"Today's PC users want stunning HD graphics and accelerated performance with all-day battery life and that's what AMD Fusion APUs deliver," said Chris Cloran, vice president and general manager, Client Division, AMD. "With these new APUs, we're bringing premium features to entry-level products that let users get a richer computing experience."

The updated "Brazos" family of APUs includes the new E-450, E-300 and C-60 models:

Model Radeon graphics model x86 CPU Core speed (Max / Base) GPU core speed (Max / Base) Cores TDP GFLOPS Resting battery Life
AMD E-Series APUs "Zacate"
Essential Updated E-450 HD 6320 1.65GHz 600MHz / 508MHz 2 18W 100 10.58 hrs
  E-350 HD 6310 1.6GHz 492MHz 2 18W 94 10.65 hrs
Updated E-300 HD 6310 1.3GHz 488MHz 2 18W 90 9.5 hrs
  E-240 HD 6310 1.5GHz 500MHz 1 18W 88 10 hrs
AMD C-Series "Ontario"
Netbooks Updated C-60 HD 6290 1.33GHz / 1.0GHz 400MHz / 276MHz 2 9W 65 12 hrs
  C-50 HD 6250 1.0GHz 276MHz 2 9W 53 12 hrs
C-30 HD 6250 1.2GHz 276MHz 1 9W 50 12 hrs

The AMD E-450 replaces the E-350. The new APU is now colcked at 1.65GHz (1.60GHz for the E-350) while the Radeon HD 6320 GPU creeps up from 492MHz to 508MHz. In addition, the E-450 supports the AMD Turbo Core: if there's available TDP the GPU cores in the E-450 can turbo up to 600MHz. The E-450 also adds official DDR3-1333 support (up from 1066).

Next up is the E-300, which replaces the single-core E-240. The E-300 has two cores, , but the CPU clock drops a bit down to 1.3GHz, as does the GPU clock (488MHz).

The 9W C-60 replaces the C-50. Both feature two Bobcat cores, but the C-60 adds AMD Turbo Core support for both the CPU and GPU. The C-60 runs at the same 1GHz clock speed as the C-50, but it can turbo up to 1.33GHz. The GPU on the other hand can turbo up to 400MHz from its 276MHz stock speed.

The updated AMD C- and E-Series APUs meet the needs of consumers who want HD streaming video, life-like gaming through DirectX 11-capable discrete-level graphics and a parallel processing engine, as well as all-day battery life.

Additionally, the updated E-Series APUs feature:

- DDR3 1333 support for enhanced memory bandwidth and faster performance and video playback.
- HDMI 1.4a connections allow for viewing 3D pictures and home video on 3D-enabled TVs and displays.

For mobile users, the new AMD Fusion C-Series and E-Series APUs deliver even longer battery life than before - with up to 10.5 hours of resting battery life on the E-Series and 12 hours on the C-Series.

Products from leading PC manufacturers based on these new APUs are available starting today and can be identified by the VISION Technology from AMD or HD Internet stickers.

AMD claims that it has shipped more than 12 million APUs, and sold more than five million of the C- and E-Series APUs in Q2 2011 alone.
