Research Points Out Global ODD Shipments for 1H

According to a report announced by Techno Systems Research (TSR), Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS) and Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology (TSST) continue to have the lead in the global shipments of half-height (H/H) optical disc drives (ODDs), for the first half of this year. Almost 96.07 million H/H ODDs were shipped globally, while 35.08 million slim-type ODDs were shipped, with respective growth reaching 3.51% and 39.54% on year.

According to the report, HLDS holds 32.01% of the global market share (30.75 million drives), followed by TSST that hold 21.86% (21.00 million drives). The Japanese/Korean alliances face a strong competition from Taiwanese LiteOn, which ranks third in the list with an 18.32% global share, followed by BenQ with only 9.34%. The listing compiled by Techno Systems Research is completed with the positions for NEC (6.07%), Pioneer (5.79%) and Asustek (2.40%).

The same research indicates that Panasonic holds 27.59% of the global market share of slim-type ODDs, followed by HLDS and TSST. Taiwanese Quanta Storage is ranked fourth in the list, followed by Teac, NEC and Sony.
