Xiaomi today extended the Redmi A series with the new and upgraded Redmi 8A smartphone.

Announced today in India, the Redmi 8A ships with a massive 5000mAh battery, allowing users long hours of usage with every single charge. Xiaomi is also introducing USB Type-C 18W fast charging support for the first time in this price segment and enables a much better camera experience through a large 1.4μm pixel camera with Sony’s IMX363 sensor.

The smartphone has a 6.22-inch (15.8cm) Dot Notch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The Aura Wave Grip design extends the ergonomics of the phone to the outside of the body, with textured patterns that make it easy to grip the phone while at the same time reducing fingerprint residues to a minimum.

With the aforementioned 5000mAh two-day battery, Redmi 8A comes with support for 18W fast charging support on the Type-C port (10W fast charger inside the box). Redmi 8A is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 octa-core chipset and available in two variants — 2GB/32GB and 3GB/32GB, featuring a 2+1 dual SIM slot with dedicated microSD card support that allows further storage expansion up to 512GB. Redmi 8A retains the feature which allows users to playback FM radio without the need of connecting their earphones.

One of the most significant upgrades on Redmi 8A is on the camera front; it now comes with a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor. With that, Redmi 8A users will be able to take advantage of the Dual Pixel Autofocus. The main camera comes with an aperture of f/1.8, and delivers photographs with a large pixel size of 1.4μm. On the front, Redmi 8A sports an 8MP selfie camera; both the front and rear cameras on Redmi 8A are capable of taking AI Portrait mode shots.

The Redmi 8A comes protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, while its nano-coating makes the smartphone splash resistant.
