Samsung Display has registered a patent that describes a curved smartphone design with dual edges, one on the left side and the other on the right side.
The patent was applied with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) last month and was classified as a "Mobile Phone". It describea 'dual-edge smartphone,' which has curved displays on the left and right sides. The dual-edge display is used for displaying app icons or menu buttons. It is now possible to assign shortcuts for text messages, settings and camera.
As LG Display already introduced the dual-edge design with displays on three sides for the next dual-edge phone of Xiaomi, attention is drawn to whether there will be controversy over patent rights in the future.
Industry insiders forecast that Samsung Electronics could unveil the dual-edge smartphone at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 to be held in Barcelona, Spain this coming March.
