Plextor today announces the launch of the PX-740A, an internal E-IDE, dual-layer, DVD and CD re-writer drive. The mid range PX-740A DVD recorder is capable of burning 8x DVD+R DL & 4x DVD-R DL, 16x DVD-/+R, 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW. Additionally, the PX-740A can write and read CD's at 48x and re-write CD's at 32x.

The PX-740A's dual layer format means consumers can burn up to 4 hours of high quality MPEG-2/DVD video on one 8.5 GB DVD in less than 15 minutes. A single layer DVD can be burnt in less than 6 minutes.
