Panasonic quits on the Q

Panasonic quits on the Q

General Interest Dec 18,2003 0

Panasonic said it had halted production of its GameCube-compatible DVD player, Q. Although the Q had capabilities and extensions not available on Nintendo's GameCube, such as Video CD playback and Optical Digital Output for DTS, the price difference of the console may have been one of the factors leading Panasonic to stop production. While Nintendo dropped the price of their Game Cube to 13,800 Yen ($128), the Q was still retailing at its original price of 34,800 ($324) yen up until the point when the company pulled the plug.

As Panasonic does not have any back stock of the Q, consoles currently on retailers' shelves will be the last machines available.
