Panasonic today released its first communication LSI compliant with the latest HDMI 2.0 specifications that enables optimal transmission of high definition 4k 50/60p image data. The new chips will be used in devices that support high resolution 4k 50/60p video.

HDMI 2.0, the latest High-Definition Multimedia Interface Specifications, which significantly increase bandwidth up to 18Gbps and supports for the transmission of 4k (2160p), 4 times the clarity of the already widespread Full HD (1080p). This specifications therefore allow for the display of ultimate resolution 4k 50/60p images via single HDMI Cable.

Available in two versions - MN864777 (24.0 x 24.0 mm) and MN864778 (20.0 x 20.0 mm), the LSIs can be used in various 4k applications, from consumer devices to broadcast, industrial and automotive equipment.

The LSIs support the scramble function to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and use Panasonic's own high-speed differential transmission technology to enhance transmission characteristics.

The MN864777 also features upscaling of existing Full HD video thanks its image enhancement functions and the 4k 50/60p Scalarand Super Resolution Circuit.

Panasonic has started mass production of the new LSIs this month with a monthly output capacity of more than 1 million units. The company will also provide its customers with the semiconductor IP to promote the further spread of 4k devices.
