Nvidia SHIELD Tablet Returns As SHIELD Tablet K1

Nvidia SHIELD Tablet Returns As SHIELD Tablet K1

Gaming Nov 17,2015 0

Nvidia has slashed the price on its gaming-centric 8-inch SHIELD Android tablet, down to $199, The tablet is not called SHIELD Tablet K1 and Nvidia hopes for some good sales toward the holiday season.

The original Nvidia Shield Tablet launched in August, and it didn't fail to impress. The company had to backtrack hard this summer when it issued a recall for every single SHILED tablet unit due to a potential battery fire hazard.

Nvidia has crammed its powerful Tegra K1 processor into an 8-inch shell, with a 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution display. The tablet has also dual front-facing speakers and an optional tablet cover that doubles as a kickstand. Games optimized for the K1 look great, but you'll really want to pick up a Shield controller for the best experience.

Nvidia offers over-the-air updates for the SHIELD tablet K1. The company anticipates Android 6.0 Marshmallow to hit SHIELD tablet K1 in the coming months.

SHIELD tablet K1 includes Wi-Fi connectivity and 16GB storage with microSD support (up to 128GB) — all at $199.99. Optional SHIELD controller retails for $59.99, SHIELD tablet K1 cover retails for $39.99, SHIELD DirectStylus 2 retails for $19.99 and SHIELD world charger with international compatibility retails for $29.99.

Nvidia also announced that Need for Speed No Limits and Real Boxing 2 are joining the games available on SHIELD tablet K1, such as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Octodad: Dadliest Catch and Vainglory.

Gamers can also join Nvidia's new cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW - free for the first three months - to connect to NVIDIA’s gaming supercomputers and enjoy streaming of about 60 PC games or buy newly released games from the online store. Following the trial period, GeForce NOW is only $7.99 per month.
