NVIDIA Releases VXGI Apollo 11 Demo

NVIDIA Releases VXGI Apollo 11 Demo

GPUs Nov 11,2014 0

A couple of months ago Nvidia showcased a recreated the famous photo from the lunar landing that took place 45 years ago in order to showcase the Voxel Global Illumination (VXGI) feature of Maxwell 2.0 GPUs. Now this demo is available for download. By taking advantage of the new GM204 Maxwell GPUs, NVIDIA had tried to debunk some of the "inconsistencies" that conspiracy theorists have been going on about for decades.

The NVIDIA demo is a demonstration of VXGI that end users can run. However, it requires it does require NVIDIA's latest GM204 GPUs in order to run. So if you are an owner of Nvidia's latest graphics cards (Maxwell-based GeForce GTX 980 and GeForce GTX 970 GPUs), you will be able to
adjust camera exposure, sun position, and toggle Neil Armstrong on/off, all of which affect the scene rendering (1920x1080) in real time.

VXGI provides a better approximation of path tracing compared to existing algorithms and could start reaching real games within the next year.
