NME Releases HD VMD Media Format to Playback on All HD Capable Devices

New Medium Enterprises is set to offer the high-definition (HD) market with a new optical storage capacity, playback format, and disc player that pronmises to deliverhigh quality HD content at a comparable cost. NME offers the following HD VMD products on red laser:

1. HD VMD Media Players:
HD VMD Media Player Duo (2 layers single side-9 GB HD VMD disc)


HD VMD Media Player Quattro (4 layers single side-20 GB HD VMD disc) 2. PC DL DVD burner with VMD-Playback support (DL DVD burner, HD VMD Duo/Quattro Playback with HD VMD playback software)

3. PC HD VMD Authoring software:
HD VMD Pro (professional version for Authoring Houses)
HD VMD Lite (consumer version – part of HD VMD recordable software)

4. PC HD VMD software
HD VMD playback software for PC and Mac
HD VMD recordable software for PC and Mac

"The first products will be available in the World’s markets, including the US, very shortly", commented NME CEO Mahesh Jayanarayan.

HD VMD is a red-laser based hardware and software end-product format. VMD technology provides up to eight information layers on each side of a disc and can be utilized for both blue laser and red laser formats.

HD VMD is a high definition format with 1920 x 1080i/p resolution, with up to 40 Mbs data transfer rate, Video Up-Conversion for SD DVD, AES encryption and all region codes.

HD VMD media format is suitable for playback on all HD capable display devices and supports existing optical disc formats: CD, DVD (DVD5 & DVD9). The typical devices suitable for HD VMD media format are PCs, DVD type media players, IPTVs and Set-Top-Boxes.

HD VMD video supports MPEG-2 codec, VC-1 codec and H.264 codec, HD VMD audio supports Dolby Digital codec, DTS codec and PCM codec.
