Microsoft To Launch A Wearable Device Soon

Microsoft To Launch A Wearable Device Soon

Smartphones Oct 19,2014 0

Microsoft is planning to launch a wearable fitness band in the coming weeks, according to a new report. Forbes claims that an official announcement is due "within the next few weeks," meaning that it could be in stores in time for the holiday season.

The smart watch will track a wearer’s heart rate, steps, calories burned, and other key health attributes thanks to a number of sensors embedded in the device. Most importantly, the device will work across different mobile platforms and will also boast a battery life of more than two days of regular use, according to the report.

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smart watch and Moto 360 which both need to be charged around once a day.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is trying to change the fortune of its company, which is looke less bright than in the past considering the strugling sales of PCs, the very slow expansion of Windows Phone and the fact that ARM's 64-bit processors are on the way and set to dominate almost all devices.

Nadella wants to make his company’s product offerings available across all devices.

Wearable tech remains an uncharted territory, despite offerings from Samsung and the forthcoming Apple Watch.

Microsoft had announced the SPOT smartwatch in 2004 that used FM radio signals to send instant messages from Windows Messenger, news headlines, stock information, and weather forecasts to your wrist.
