LG Display Develops New QHD LCD panel for Smartphones

LG Display Develops New QHD LCD panel for Smartphones

Smartphones Jan 10,2017 0

LG Display has developed a new 5.7-inch quad high-definition (QHD) liquid crystal display (LCD) panel for mobile devices, including LG's upcoming smartphones.

"With its incomparable 18:9 picture ratio and high-quality display, the new panel is expected to maximize user experience and customer value," LG Display's mobile development group head Kim Byeong-koo said in a statement.

"The display, which is the largest part of a handset, has continued to be improved to have diverse picture ratios such as 4:3, 3:2, 5:3 and 16:9," the company said. "With its 18:9 picture ratio, the new product provides a more immersive user experience to meet the desire for larger and extensive displays."

The 5.7-inch QHD+ display has a 1,440 x 2,880 screen resolution, compared to a 5.5-inch QHD panel's 1,440 x 2,560.

Tapping into LG Display's in-TOUCH technology, the new panel does not need a touch cover glass to recognize finger-touch motions, allowing handset makers to realize a slimmer design. Its thickness is less than 1 millimeter and has a 20 percent slimmer top bezel and 10 percent slimmer side bezels, compared to the previous QHD LCD panel, the company said.

LG Display also improved light transmittance by 10 percent from the previous model, making it more recognizable in bright environments. It also consumes 30 percent less electricity, the company added.
