HP unveils new products

PC components Apr 6,2005 0

HP has announced new offerings in its desktop, notebook, and LCD lines, touting fresh designs and colors, along with media-centric feature sets. HP is expanding its desktop PC family with two new Pavilion desktop series, the d4000 and a1000, as well as the HP Media Center m7000 Series Photosmart PC. Customizable features include a Personal Media Drive with up to 400GB of storage, and a removable docking station for HP's R-series digital cameras and Apple iPods from HP. The new PCs will also come with Norton Internet Security 2005 and Intermute's SpySubtract Pro pre-installed with free updates for two months.

Pre-configured desktop systems will be available later this month, with custom configurations available in May. Pricing starts at $379 direct, after rebates.

Two new notebooks, the HP Pavilion zv6000 and the Compaq Presario R4000, include AMD processors, with Athlon 64 processors for 64-bit readiness and quiet performance. The notebooks also come with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M integrated graphics with up to 128MB discrete memory, ExressCard/54 PC card slots, and a 15.4-inch BrightView widescreen display. The zv6000 is available now, to be followed by the r4000 in a few weeks. The notebooks start as low as $799 after rebates.

To round out the offerings, HP announced a new line of accessories to complement the updated PCs. New LCD displays include speakers and an anti-glare surface, and are available in 15-, 17-, and 19-inch models. The displays can be used on a stand or wall-mounted, and are priced starting at $229 (direct with rebate). HP's new optical mouse and wireless keyboard are $49.99 each.
