Go Master Cho Wins Final Game Against DeepZenGo AI Platform

Go Master Cho Wins Final Game Against DeepZenGo AI Platform

Enterprise & IT Nov 24,2016 0

Go master Cho Chikun on Wednesday won the final game against DeepZenGo, a Japanese artificial intelligence program, to win the three-game series 2-1.

Cho, who has garnered 74 titles in his career, defeated DeepZenGo, with the 167th move in the third game in the nonhandicapped series.

DeepZenGo uses deep learning and other advanced technologies. It is being developed with support mainly from Dwango Co., a video-sharing website operator, and the University of Tokyo.

"I feel as if I was playing with a human as (DeepZenGo) has both strong and weak points," Cho said after the final game.

Obviously, the Japanese AI software needs more work in terms of computational performance and AI training. Previously, Google's AlphaGo AI platform had managed to easily beat the S. Korea world champion in the Go Master game.

The two AI systems feature different hardware configuration:

AlphaGo uses a distributed approach using a set of thousands of GPU and CPUs, while the DeepZenGo uses a dual-core CPU for gaming. As a result, there is a huge gap in computing power.
