AllOfMP3 Shut Down by Russian Government

AllOfMP3 Shut Down by Russian Government

Enterprise & IT Jul 3,2007 0

AllOfMp3 music store has been shut down by the Russian government. The popular online music store has been finally forced to shut down, following significanbt pressure from various record labels, and the U.S. World Trade Organisation.

"AllOfMp3, the popular online music store, has been shut down by the Russian government," the TorrentFreak site now reports. Indeed, attempting to access allofmp3.com results in a connection timeout error.

AllOfMP3 had nearly 6 million users who were able to download songs and albums for a fraction of the price from authorized alternatives such as the iTunes Store. MP3s were sold for $0.20 per song, or less.

Allofmp3.com was sued by a collection of record labels last year. The suit had been filed in a New York court against the Moscow firm, which claimed that it abides by Russian law.

Arista, Warner Brothers, Capitol and Universal are amongst the major companies behind the suit. They claimed that Allofmp3.com profited by selling music which they own the rights to without their permission and without compensation.

In addition, the existence of Allofmp3.com, which delivered downloadable music worldwide, was claimed to obstruct Russian accession to the World Trade Organisation.

However, it seems that mp3sparks.com - an almost identical web site with AllOfMp3.com - has been already online, with the mother company of AllOfMP3 to be reportedly behind it.
