Acer HD DVD Notebooks Powered by Nvidia PureVideo HD Technology now available

PC components Jun 5,2006 0

NVIDIA today announced that NVIDIA GeForce GPUs with PureVideo HD technology will power HD DVD movie playback in three series of Acer notebooks. - Aspire 9110 with 15.4” screen – powered by the GeForce Go 7600 GPU - Aspire 9510 with 17” screen – available with the GeForce Go 7600 or the enthusiast-class GeForce Go 7900 GS GPU - Aspire 9800 with 20.1” screen – featuring the GeForce Go 7600 GPU

All of these models will feature NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology, which enables the playback of new HD DVD movies with superb picture clarity. In recent weeks Acer and other industry PC leaders have announced cutting-edge HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc equipped PCs featuring NVIDIA technology.

"With the Acer Aspire 9800, 9510 and 9110 series, our goal was to create notebooks with HD-DVD movie playback quality that rivals living room players. This is a complex project involving diverse components such as video acceleration, content security management and software support," stated Campbell Kan, Head of Mobile Computing Business Unit, Acer Inc. "NVIDIA provided the ideal top-to-bottom solution that enabled us to meet our goals and get to market on time."

HD DVD is a new high definition video disc standard that delivers up to six times the image quality of standard DVD movies. HD DVD promises a major advancement over video discs in the same way that HDTVs deliver superior image detail over standard TV. Playing high-quality HD DVD movies on a PC requires a complex mix of video processing power, software support, and content security enforcement. NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology achieves all of this with low CPU utilization and low power consumption making it a choice of top PC makers building HD DVD capable PCs.

“Now that HD DVD movies are shipping, users want to watch them on their notebooks”, said Jeff Fisher, Senior Vice President of the GPU Business at NVIDIA. “Acer Aspire notebooks with NVIDIA GeForce GPUs and PureVideo HD technology fill the need, providing notebook users with superior HD movie playback on the go.”

NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology

NVIDIA PureVideo HD provides hardware acceleration for decoding and post-processing HD movies, integration with leading movie players, and HDCP feature support, enabling PC manufacturers to easily build a complete high-definition PC that can play back either HD DVD or Blu-ray movies. As a result, consumers will be able to enjoy a stunning, stutter-free high-definition movie experience on their PC.

NVIDIA at Computex

NVIDIA will showcase the Acer Aspire 9110 HD DVD notebook featuring NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology at the NVIDIA booth at Computex in Taiwan from June 6 to June 10.
