MediaTek Releases New High-end Smartphone Helio SoC

MediaTek Releases New High-end Smartphone Helio SoC

Smartphones Mar 27,2015 0

Chip designer MediaTek on Friday unveiled the Helio, a high-end smartphone system-on-chip. The name Helio originates from the Greek sun god Helios, and the new smartphone line will consist of the Helio X series and Helio P series.

The 64-bit, eight-core Helio X10 processor will increase performance and reduce energy consumption and is expected to go on sale in the second quarter, the company said. The Helio X10 is a True 8Core, 2.2GHz 64-bit mobile processor, which operates ARM Cortex-A53 cores. Additional features include the following multimedia sub-systems:

  • MiraVision - A real-time pixel processing engine which dynamically controls sharpness, contrast and color, to enhance picture quality.
  • SmartScreen – An algorithm/pixel engine that compresses and enhances individual pixels, in real-time, to make the screen brighter, promising TV-like quality using significantly less power.
  • 120Hz display in mobile devices
  • Super slow-motion –A camera capturing 480 frames per second (fps) for 1080p Full HD videos, with playback at 1/16 speed.
  • InstantFocus – Reduces focus time by 1.5 seconds and improves tracking
  • The first Helio powered smartphones will be commercially available in the second quarter of 2015.

MediaTek is also offering a cash award to those who come up an ideal Chinese name for the processor that will both resonate in the Chinese market and reflect the spirit and features of the product.

The product-naming event will kick off on April 15, and each participant can propose three entries.

MediaTek will announce the results of the contest in early June, with the top winner pocketing 1 million yuan (US$160,930) and five others each receiving 50,000 yuan.
