The Pirate Bay Could Replace Ad Revenue With Cryptocurrency Mining Using Your CPU

The Pirate Bay Could Replace Ad Revenue With Cryptocurrency Mining Using Your CPU

Enterprise & IT Sep 17,2017 0

The Pirate Bay website has been testing a new way to generate revenue - adding a Javascript cryptocurrency miner in its website that uses your processor in order to mine Monero digital coins.

Although the script mainly appears in search results and category listings within the Pirate Bay website, but you may notice the spike in the CPU usage of your device when it kicks in.

The Pirate Bay says that this new feature is a test and that the could could offer enough revenue to eventually replace ads.

Of course, blocking or disabling Javascript can stop the automatic mining. However, blocking/disabling Javascript will limit the website's functionality - you may be unable to scrol back though pages of comments or even post comments. Viewing the file list will also not work.
