Oak Technology announces advancements in DVD-Recordable and Combo optical storage technologies

General Interest Mar 22,2002 0

Oak Technology today announced advancements to the company's optical storage technology foundation from which new generations of DVD-Recordable and CD-R/RW+DVD combo semiconductor-based solutions will be based. Oak is augmenting its leadership optical storage device technologies by supporting a variety of optical media standards, eliminating growing consumer resistance and concerns about disc compatibility. By developing its technology to enable drive support of multiple media formats including DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, and CD-RW discs, Oak presents a highly attractive, high-performance, cost effective, and extremely complementary architecture foundation for future Oak optical solutions and OEM consumer products.

Young Sohn, chairman and CEO of Oak Technology stated, "As we continue our momentum to increase device integration and deliver optimized optical storage solutions to the market, Oak is working with the top-tier drive OEMs including LGE, Mitsubishi, Mitsumi, Philips, and Yamaha to broaden new performance features and horizons for DVD-recordable and combo-based drive consumer products. Providing this level of format compatibility is a significant step forward for the consumer."
