Latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Updates Edge Browser, Adds Flashlight

Smartphones Jun 26,2015 0

Microsoft has a new Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview (Build 10149) for Windows Insiders, giving them a new glimpse at Microsoft's mobile future. This latest build includes the Microsoft Edge branding instead of Project Spartan, has the address bar at the bottom, and also offers the option to view websites in mobile view or desktop view.

There are also a lot of UX improvements and refinement. Microsoft fixed an issue where many Live tiles pinned to Start would appear blurry. There is more refinement of controls with updated icons and visuals and the OS is generally more responsive to use.

Cortana’s Notebook is in its final stage with a combined Profile and Settings experience now. Insiders can also also now set up Quiet Hours in Cortana’s Notebook and even send an e-mail with Cortana.

One of the most important changes is the addition of a Flashlight quick action so users can quickly turn their phone’s flash into a flashlight.

This latest build also includes support for animated GIFs in the Photos app for phones that have 1GB of RAM or more. It also supports automatic upload of photos to OneDrive, so people can easily save the images they take to Microsoft’s cloud storage service.

As with a lot of beta software, there are also some bugs in this release.

Microsoft hasn’t given a definitive launch date for the mobile version of its new operating system, other than to say it will be coming after the public launch of Windows 10 for PCs and tablets on July 29.
