The Pirate Bay Introduces "Physibles"

The Pirate Bay Introduces "Physibles"

Enterprise & IT Jan 24,2012 0

File-sharing site The Pirate Bay is expanding its reach into letting users download "physical objects" The site is introducing a new category called "Physibles".

"We believe that the next step in copying will be made from digital form into physical form," The Pirate Bay said in a blog post. "It will be physical objects. Or as we decided to call them: Physibles. Data objects that are able (and feasible) to become physical. We believe that things like three dimensional (3D) printers, scanners and such are just the first step. We believe that in the nearby future you will print your spare sparts for your vehicles. You will download your sneakers within 20 years," the post reads.

Currently, the "Physibles" category on the web site is including a few 3D models available for download: apparent data files for a The Pirate Bay ship, 3D Paper Optical Illusions from www.urdjuret.com, a 3D Printable Chris Dodd with AACS Encryption Key, a whistle, a model robot and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle car as well as a a short training video-lesson about some features of importing of 3d stl models into program ARTCAM for the subsequent cutting with CNC machine tools. Of course, the 3D models should be printed using a 3D printer.

The Pirate Bay says that what it believes to be the imminent advent of 3D printing and file-sharing will be tremendously beneficial to society.

"We believe that the future of sharing is about physible data. We're thinking of temporarily renaming ourselves to The Product Bay," TBE said.
