Yahoo Opens Digital Newstand For Tablets

Yahoo! today announced Livestand from Yahoo!, a digital newsstand that offers new content to users based on their interests. Launching first for tablets, Livestand from Yahoo! will enable publishers and advertisers to distribute personalized content across tablets and mobile phones.

Designed to initially power Yahoo!'s digital content library - which includes Sports, News, Finance, Flickr, omg!, and the Yahoo! Contributor Network ? Livestand from Yahoo! offers content based on concumer's interests, time of day, and location. The publishing platform will feature touch interactions, a beautiful design, and a singular focus on content, Yahoo! said.

Publishers will be able to to reach audiences through an easy set-up procedure and take advantage of the provided social interactions to further expand content reach.

Advertisers will also be able to take advantage of targeting solutions across content and devices, the platform's interactive canvas that brings magazine-style ads to the tablet as well as the combination of scale and hyper-personalization to reach and engage target audiences.

Livestand from Yahoo! is slated to be available to consumers as iPad and Android tablet applications in the first half of 2011, and as a scalable platform for publishers and advertisers.

Yahoo's project is a serious move by the company to expand its mobile presence.
