Sony Online Entertainment has been acquired by investment management firm Columbus Nova and will become a multi-platfom gaming company. According to an announcement by a member of the company on Reddit and a forum post by a community manager at the company, effective immediately SOE will operate as an independent game development studio. The company will continue to focus on creating nline games for players, and becomes a multi-platform gaming company - meaning that SOE will end up making games for Microsoft's Xbox One video game cosole as well.

As part of this transition, SOE will now become Daybreak Game Company.

For users, all SOE games will continue on their current path of development and operation.

Sony Online Entertainment was formed in 1995 as an internal game development studio at sony and went on to develop many popular MMORPG games including Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies and more.
