Sonic Launches World's First TiVo Service-enabled DVD Creation Solution for PC Users

Optical Storage Jan 7,2005 0

MyDVD Studio 6.1 Adds Integrated Support for TiVoToGo(TM), Allowing Transfer, Viewing, and DVD/CD Burning of Recorded Shows From a TiVo Box Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:SNIC), the leader in digital media software, today launched MyDVD Studio 6.1, the world's first line of TiVo(R) service-enabled DVD creation solutions for the PC. Shipping this month, the new version of Sonic's award-winning MyDVD software is optimized for seamless integration with the TiVoToGo(TM) service enhancement from TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO) Inc., the creator of and leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVRs). The combined Sonic and TiVo technologies, being demonstrated by the two companies at CES, will for the first time allow TiVo subscribers to use their PCs to transfer, view, and burn to disc (DVD-Video or Video CD) the shows they record on their home-networked TiVo boxes.

"We're excited to be working with Sonic to offer our customers new capabilities that enhance the value of their TiVo subscriptions," said Matt Wisk, chief marketing officer at TiVo. "The TiVo-enabled version of MyDVD Studio will make it easy for our subscribers to take their favorite shows with them wherever they go, whether they want to play them back on a laptop, or burn them to a DVD to watch anywhere."

Using MyDVD Studio, the world's leading solution for fast creation of high-quality DVDs, TiVo subscribers will be able to easily record programs they've recorded on their TiVo boxes directly to a DVD-Video disc. By burning to DVD, users can bring the TiVo experience with them wherever they go. Whether they create DVDs for use in their car for a family vacation or move programs to their laptop for entertainment on a business trip, Sonic and TiVo are providing more choices to users. Consumers can also play back their TV shows directly on their PCs using the integrated Sonic CinePlayer(TM) decoder for Windows Media Player, the ultimate high-quality video playback software for the PC. A new TiVoToGo plug-in for MyDVD Studio will search for and list available programs on any TiVo Series2(TM)-networked DVR in the home, and transfer user-selected content to the notebook or desktop PC running MyDVD.

"The integration of TiVoToGo support into MyDVD Studio underscores Sonic's commitment to seamless content access in the digital home," said Mark Ely, senior vice president of corporate strategy for Sonic. "Working together, TiVo and Sonic are unlocking the power of the home network, enabling consumers to enjoy their favorite digital media content whenever and wherever they like -- whether on their PC or on a DVD that they can take anywhere."

MyDVD Studio's TiVo support complements and enhances the outstanding feature set that has made MyDVD the number-one choice for consumer DVD and CD authoring and burning. With MyDVD, TiVo subscribers will be able to include multiple shows on one disc, customize their DVDs with special effects such as chapter points, motion-menu backgrounds, and animated buttons, and add their own personal content such as photo slideshows and home movies. In addition, MyDVD Studio's Fit-to-DVD(TM) functionality offers "set it and forget it" automatic quality optimization, whether projects include four minutes or four hours of video. MyDVD is also OpenDVD(R)-compliant, allowing new shows to be easily added to an existing archive disc.

Sonic will begin shipping MyDVD Studio 6.1 as of January 15, 2005, with the TiVoToGo plug-in scheduled to follow later in Q1 2005. MyDVD Studio 6.1 will also be available to TiVo subscribers on the TiVo website as a free 15-day trial. Subscribers will be able to purchase the full product at a reduced price of $49.99 ($20.00 off MSRP).
